I have a decent sized lawn and strive to keep it in tip top shape. Here are some tips to take of your lawn in these summer months.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Lawn roots Lawn roots First and foremost you should water you lawn with a deep soaking once per week. This allows the roots to dig deep for the water in turn making them stronger. Watering daily for brief moments keeps their roots at the top and makes for easier lawn damage.
Step2
Water your lawn Water your lawn Water your lawn first thing in the morning as the sun is coming up. Watering during the day when the sun is hot and shining directly on your lawn could cause burn and also most of the water will evaporate quickly. Watering a night may cause fungus to grow on your lawn.
Step3
Fertilizer Fertilizer Apply a slow release lawn fertilizer. Scotts has a really good one. Read the instructions on when to apply it. Fertilizing too fast during hot months will burn up your lawn.
Step4
Keep grass high in the summer Keep grass high in the summer Keep your grass height around 3.5" to 4" during the hot months. This helps with drought resistance.

on 6/26/2008 someone also sent me a message asking about crabgrass. I found this website to be very helpful: http://www.ipm.ucdavis.edu/PMG/PESTNOTES/pn7456.html

on 6/26/2008 Also forgot to add, put your weed & feed down in the early spring before the weeds hit. I know it is not summer related, but I wanted to add that one in.
